The Kartell kids chair K1340, designed by Richard Sapper and Marco Zanuso, is a joyful icon of Italian design. Produced between 1964 and 1979, it was created not only as a seat but also as a game. Light, colorful, and durable, it encouraged children to imagine and build.

Made from molded polyethylene, it was one of the first children’s chairs entirely in plastic — a true innovation at the time. Its ribbed seat and curved back give comfort and strength, while the removable legs make it stackable and endlessly versatile. Children could use several chairs to create towers, bridges, or tiny cities.

This sense of play earned the Kartell kids chair the Compasso d’Oro award and a place in museums worldwide.

This example, in vibrant red with black feet, remains well preserved with minor marks from age. Simple yet brilliant, it shows how design can teach creativity while standing as a timeless collectible.
